Helping people grow their capacity to listen deeply and prayerfully to God.

Primarily, I work towards this goal through spiritual direction.  I help people discover purpose, form habits, recognise strengths, live more in line with their values, and integrate their faith into their work and life.
John 15:5
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Spiritual direction conversations include all the "stuff" of ordinary life—work, relationships, circumstances, health, the life of worship and prayer and service, joys and sorrows, boredoms and adventures. In an atmosphere of prayerful listening, a spiritual director helps you seek to notice God's presence, work, and invitations in the midst of your everyday.

Often beginning and ending in silent prayer, to create an awareness of God, it's common for the director to ask you to return to a few moments of silence in the middle of a session, again to clear away the clutter of talk and notice more deeply what the Holy Spirit may be saying.

The essential thing, then, is not to be concerned about results or to dream up ambitious projects but simply to remain linked to Christ, to “abide in his love.”

Solution

Are you looking to go deeper?

Has it been a while since you’ve had a regular, clear sense of God’s presence?

Do you feel spiritually stale?

Are you facing a difficult decision and would like someone to prayerfully think about it with you?

Do you feel as though you’d like to discover a deeper dimension to your faith?

Would it help to have a trusted friend to come alongside you, to help you pay attention to the voice of the Holy Spirit and to enjoy life to the fullest as beloved sons and daughters in the Kingdom?

Process

01 Consultation

The first time we meet will be more conversational so that we can get to know each other a little bit, you can ask questions, and together we can decide if this will be a good fit.

02  BookAppointment

Once you've decided to pursue spiritual direction, you can immediately schedule an appointment directly on the calendar on the scheduling page.

03 Regular Meetings

We'll meet approximately once a month for an hour, in person  or by Zoom. During the hour, our time is spent talking, praying, and sitting in silence. I will ask open-ended questions about how you've been noticing God's presence in your life since the last time we met, pray with you and for you, and sit with you in silence as we wait on God's direction. I may make observations, but will not judge or offer advice. Everything we talk about will be held in confidence.

The time with Art is a great time to slow down the busyness of life. He helps me quiet my heart and mind, and listen to God as I reflect on all that is happening in life.

I always leave refreshed and with a sense of peace.

-Paul

Art is a wise guide and a gentle facilitator of spiritual exploration and discovery, asking good questions and offering insight, not advice. Art is a keen listener and he's helping me to listen for God and to God.  As neither of us comes to our sessions with a predetermined agenda, an issue to discuss, or a problem to solve, Art enables a conversation to unfold, expand, and go in a very fruitful direction. I regularly have "AHA" moments in our sessions. And I leave every one of our sessions feeling more awake to God from more light getting in.

-Ralph

Meeting with Art has been a meaningful step in learning to listen to God and inviting pause and reception in my prayer life. I find our time to be a holy interruption to my hurry, and I've appreciated the gentle reminder to be alongside all I have do.

To be a Christian, life in the world is challenging; I'm thankful for Art's presence, encouragement, and companionship along the way.
