When might you seek out a spiritual director?
A Bible verse I have long cherished as a pastor and spiritual companion is Galatians 4:19: My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you...
Do you hear what the apostle Paul is saying? He’s calling himself a midwife—attending at the birth of Christ in his friends!
That’s what spiritual direction is. One person helping another to pay attention to God, God’s presence, God’s voice, and God’s work in another’s life. Giving one’s attention to God rather than to a particular problem that needs to be fixed. Listening together to the Holy Spirit’s presence. Inviting curiosity through evocative questions, restful silence, and contemplative companionship. Helping a friend trust God more. Attending at the birth of rekindled faith in Jesus.
What Is Spiritual Direction?
The first time we meet will be more conversational so that we can get to know each other a little bit, you can ask questions, and together we can decide if this will be a good fit.
1. Consultation
Once you've decided to pursue spiritual direction, you can immediately schedule an appointment directly on the calendar on the scheduling page.
2. Book Appointment
We'll meet approximately once a month for an hour, in person or by Zoom. During the hour, our time is spent talking, praying, and sitting in silence. I will ask open-ended questions about how you've been noticing God's presence in your life since the last time we met, pray with you and for you, and sit with you in silence as we wait on God's direction. I may make observations, but will not judge or offer advice. Everything we talk about will be held in confidence.
